Founded in 1872 and ranked in the top 10 Japanese universities, and in the top 200 worldwide (QS Worldwide rankings), the University of Tsukuba has a long and proud history as one of Japan's premier educational institutions. The University campus is located in the center of Tsukuba Science City, 60 kilometers northeast of Tokyo. The Tsukuba Express Line links Tsukuba and Akihabara in central Tokyo in 45 minutes. Tsukuba science city is Japan's top academic environment. Currently, over 300 private research organizations and approximately 30 public research organizations are located in Tsukuba. Tsukuba has an internationally diverse, welcoming and friendly population. Approximately 8,500 of Tsukuba's 227,000 residents hail from overseas, with around 2,500 of these studying or working at the University. 


The percentage of foreign residents is one of the highest for any Japanese city, making Tsukuba a friendly, and welcoming place for international students.
The Master's Program in Agro-Biological Resource Sciences and Technology, which is a component of the Double Degree Program with the B2AS Master, aims to produce researchers and highly trained professionals endowed with the research ability and abundant knowledge required for the fields of Agro-Biological Resource Sciences and Technology. The main focus of the education/research program is sustainable food security for the future.
